214 BCE. The war between Rome and Carthage has reached a stalemate. Rampaging through southern Italy, Hannibal rides high after his stunning battlefield successes. But in Spain the Romans, under the able leadership of the brothers Gnaeus and Publius Scipio, have managed to prevent Carthaginian reinforcements from moving to support Carthage’s star general.
